Highlights from the third day of the 9th International Community-Based Adaptation Conference (CBA9) on measuring and enhancing effective adaptation to climate change, which took place in Nairobi, Kenya, from 24-30 April 2015

  1. It was a busy start to the third day of CBA9 at the IIED publications stand...

  3. Then it was straight into the first plenary of the day on ecosystem-based adaptation effectiveness
  4. Day three of #CBA9 is now underway and we'll be covering the evaluating ecosystem-based adaptation session with Elizabeth Khaka @UNEP
  5. Ecosystem-based adaptation is the same as community-based adaptation when done properly says Hannah Reid as she introduces the session #CBA9
  6. day 3 of #CBA9 Eco-system-based adaptation having increasing buy-in says @IIED's Hannah Reid
  7. Keith Alverson @UNEP :quantification not important when evaluating EbA #CBA9 http://t.co/Ft1yn5zuRw

  9. Stop quantifying the value of ecosystems! 500 Bill Gates = the value of the world's ocean?! Just ludicrous! #EbA session at #CBA9 @IIED
  10. Ecosystems Based Adaptation has similar challenges to agroecology - diversity complicates measurement #CBA9
  11. Listen to the community and ensure local ownership of ecosystem-based approach projects @EMJPerry advises participants at #CBA9
  12. Challenge is now to focus on the people in urban areas and agricultural landscapes - Keith Alverson @UNEP #CBA9
  13. #Maasai community use animal, wind & insects signs to monitor #climatechange say Maasai elder during #CBA9
  14. Then after a quick break it was back into the parallel sessions, the first one was on Loss and Damage
  15. Lot's has been happening at #CBA9 this morning with parallel sessions on loss and damage and more...
  16. Loss and damage at #CBA9 Why is it important? How do we measure it? How does it relate to adaptation?
  17. @SaleemulHuq #CBA9 on loss & damage : human induced element of #climatechange is the bit that breaks he camel's back http://t.co/H4zyFdWOxO

  18. Then after lunch it was another busy afternoon of parallel sessions...
  19. We're about to break for lunch at #CBA9 but back this afternoon with sessions on traditional knowledge & adaptation, and exploring EBA...
  20. Now back in Nairobi we're at the biocultural heritage and adaptation session #CBA9 focusing on the role of indigenous knowledge
  21. Great to hear that the outcomes/themes discussed in this session will be fed into the traditional knowledge side event at #COP21Paris #CBA9
  22. At the same time there was session on exploring ecosystem-based adaptation with participatory exercises
  23. Out of Box Session with Shaun Martin of @WWF on EBA, ecosystem friendly, ecosystem centric adaptation was excellent! #CBA9
  24. And there was also a session in search of the the 'wow factor'...
  25. Afternoon session investigating innovative CBA M&E approaches with the wow factor #cba9
  26. Lindsey Jones from @ODIclimate on bottom up approaches to "subjective resilience" #CBA9 http://t.co/gz0GO0c07t

  27. The 'wow factor' competition in #climatechange adaptation M&E at #CBA9. Love it. Funny & serious at the same time. @tommytanner
  28. It was then into the second part of the poster market-place where the winner was announced. Drum roll please...
  29. Second poster session at #CBA9 about to start. We'll be tweeting them all out again so if you're not here you won't miss out!
